DIGHTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Dighton’s town administrator will step down next month.

Michael Mullen said he has accepted a new job as the director of planning and economic development for the town of Plainville.

“It goes without saying that I have truly enjoyed my work on behalf of the Dighton community,” Mullen said.

Mullen, who’s the town’s second-ever administrator, said the efforts required for the role are “becoming unsustainable.”

“The role has also brought with it additional sacrifices to my young family,” he explained. “I love being a devoted husband and a proud dad as much as I thrive on having a successful and impactful career as a municipal leader. I am looking forward to a new role where I will bring the same kind of work ethic for which I am known, but that allows me to achieve a more sustainable balance, especially for my family.”

Mullen touted his accomplishments throughout his tenure, such as garnering $4 million in grant money for replacing the Pleasant Street Bridge and the construction of a new library on Main Street.

“I am and will always remain grateful for the opportunity to serve in such an impactful way,” he said.

Mullen plans to work with the town’s Board of Selectmen “to ensure a smooth transition.”
