Nearly 44 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home for Memorial Day weekend, according to this year’s travel forecast from AAA . That’s a 4% increase over last year as the industry continues to rebound from the pandemic.

Of those travelers, more than 38 million are expected to drive to their destination. AAA said gas prices have been holding steady recently, averaging $3.56 per gallon for unleaded in Rhode Island and a penny less in Massachusetts. The national average is currently $3.59 per gallon.
