PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island Energy customers who pay their bills online will notice some changes starting next week.

The utility provider announced last month that it would launch a new website on Monday, Aug. 19, as well as update the design of its bills. The goal, according to Rhode Island Energy, is to improve the user experience and provide customers with more detailed information about their energy usage and charges.

MORE: RI Energy customers will soon have to update their online accounts

Starting at 5 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 15, customers won’t be able to pay their bills or make service requests through Rhode Island Energy’s website or call center. However, the call center will still be taking emergency response calls.

To report a power outage, call 1-855-743-1101. To report a gas emergency, leave the building immediately and call 911 or 1-800-640-1595.

Once the new site goes live on Monday, customers will be asked to create a new online profile, reset their password, and review their payment methods and other account settings.

Rhode Island Energy said the changes will not affect electricity and gas service.

The company also announced that it will have new contact numbers beginning Monday. Anyone who needs help can call 1-855-743-1101 or text 743674 (RIEMSG).
