WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Starting on Friday, a short portion of I-295 in Warwick, West Warwick and Cranston will be closed while crews work to replace the Providence Street Bridge.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) said it will be implementing a combination of full highway closures and lane closures throughout the weekend and into early next week.

Over the course of the closure, the old bridge will be demolished and the new one will be moved into place.

RIDOT said during the full closures, all I-295 will be closed between I-95 in Warwick and Route 37 in Cranston. The lane closures will be at the Providence Street Bridge overpass north of Exit 1B.

On Friday, RIDOT said I-295 in both directions will be reduced to one lane at 7 p.m. and at 9 p.m. it will be fully closed. Providence Street above I-295 will be closed at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, one lane will open at 9 a.m. for I-295 South. All lanes for I-295 North and South will reopen at noon. At 5 p.m. on Sunday, both directions of I-295 will close.

Both directions of I-295 will reopen at 6 a.m. on Monday for the start of the work week. RIDOT said between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and then after 6 p.m., there will likely be single-lane closures.
