JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Johnston spray tan studio is now home to Rhode Island’s first nail painting robot.

Clockwork installed its MiNiCURE robot at Glistening Goddesses earlier this week.

The nail painting robot is fully autonomous and uses proprietary AI and 3D vision technology to apply polish in under 10 minutes. Each so-called “minicure” costs $15 and there are currently more than 30 different colors to choose from.

Renuka Apte, Clockwork’s founder, said the service is designed to be quick, easy and convenient for those with busy schedules.

“We view our technology as complementary to talented nail technicians—not as a replacement,” Apte said. “Nail technicians shine in areas requiring creativity, pampering, and premium services, while our robots step in for those seeking quick and affordable, yet high-quality nail services.”

“Think of all the hard-working moms, dedicated nurses, bustling professionals, and anyone juggling work, family, or both,” she continued. “Sometimes, all you need is a quick fix or a precious 10-minute breather amid the daily hustle.”

There are more than 20 MiNiCURE robots nationwide, including one in Boston’s Financial District and another inside XpresSpa at John F. Kennedy International Airport .

The nail painting robot only applies polish and does not file or shape, however, Clockwork offers files and other tools to those who need them. It can only paint on bare nails, meaning old polish must be removed prior to using the service.
