PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man is facing charges after stealing a box truck from his work and then stabbing someone in the capital city.

Johnston Police Chief Mark Vieira told 12 News 57-year-old Richard Gilbert caused a disturbance at Shred n Go, where he works, and then took off in a company truck without permission.

Vieira said another Shred n Go employee followed Gilbert to Hartford Avenue in Providence, where Gilbert reportedly stabbed someone.

Gilbert was taken into custody by Providence officers. It’s unclear what charges he will face out of Providence, but Vieira said he will be charged with disorderly conduct and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent in Johnston.

12 News has reached out to the Providence Police Department for more information but has not yet heard back.
