EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Back to school means back to routine, but busy schedules can sometimes make it hard to stick to a healthy diet.

After a long, busy day, some may find themselves getting dinner at a drive-through, but experts say there are simple and delicious ways to avoid that.

“They end up making quick choices. They gravitate more toward fast food, more takeout, they might skip meals,” dietician Hannah Masse said.

Masse said putting aside some time to meal prep can go a long way.

“Sit down with your family, your partner, whoever is eating with you, and just talk about what we want to eat for the week,” she explained.

If you look at a plate, Masse said a quarter of it should be protein, a quarter should be carbs and one half should be vegetables.

Another idea that she suggested is to keep snacks in your car.
