CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The Cranston Public Library announced it now has “Memory Care Kits” available at the Sockanosset Cross Road branch.

These kits are intended to help visitors who deal with conditions like memory loss and dementia.

“Our memory care kits include carefully selected items that enable caregivers and family members to work with dementia patients to spark conversation and memories, creating a positive experience for all involved,” Assistant Library Director Julie Holden said.

The kits include items such as memorabilia, picture books, matching games and more.

The state’s Office of Library and Information Services and the Institute of Museum and Library Services provided resources to help make the kits available.

The library said the kits will also be utilized in its “Healthy Families at the Cranston Public Library” program that started back in 2021.

“This program is an example of how our library continues to evaluate our collections and services to evolve with the community’s needs,” Ed Garcia, director of the Cranston Public Library, said.
