PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Two people are facing charges after a fight Wednesday night on Broad Street in Providence.

Kyle Spurgeon, 49, is charged with felony assault, robbery, and conspiracy, while Jillian Zelano, 39, is charged with simple assault, according to city police.

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. and involved those two suspects, along with a third, unnamed person.

Detectives said surveillance video showed Zelano punching that person, causing him to fall down. The third person and Sturgeon then began to assault Zelano, who pulled out a box cutter to defend herself and hid under a vehicle, police said.

Zelano slashed the third person when he went up to her and tried to take her phone, according to police.

At that point, police said Spurgeon got a “blunt object,” possibly a tire iron, from his vehicle and hit Zelano in the ankle while she was on the ground, then allegedly took her phone and gave it to the third person.

Police said none of the injuries were life-threatening.
