WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) — Three dogs on the run for nearly a month were captured by animal control and are now looking for their forever homes.

It’s believed that they were dumped on I-95 near Route 3 in West Greenwich nearly a month ago and made their way into the Big River Management Area along Burnt Sawmill Road.

Local trapper Dawn McPhillips told 12 News she learned the dogs’ patterns and behaviors using trail cameras and feeding stations.

She believes they were finding food along trails left by hikers which made trapping them more difficult.

Eventually, the first two dogs were caught on consecutive days, but the third was more difficult.

After another couple of days and a fresh feeding station, McPhillips was able to capture the third dog.

McPhillips believes the dogs are about 8 months old, are “very sweet” and do not have any apparent injuries.

Anyone with information on the dogs or their previous owners is asked to contact West Greenwich police.
