CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — An 18-year-old man appeared in court Monday morning, accused of breaking into a home in Cranston with a weapon over the weekend.

Jaden Bourgeois Thomas faces four felony charges for his alleged role in the home invasion, including burglary and assault.

Cranston police were called to Pengrove Street around 10 p.m. Saturday.

Police said there were four people inside the home at the time, along with Bourgeois Thomas and a second suspect.

Bourgeois Thomas was allegedly armed with a machete, and according to court documents, he’s accused of injuring at least one person.

Police said they’re searching for the second suspect, who ran from the scene.

Family members who attended the arraignment told 12 News that Bourgeois Thomas just turned 18 in June and they believe he is a good kid who made a mistake.

Bourgeois Thomas was held without bail. He’s due back in court for a status conference on Sept. 19.

The family would say he’s a good kid that made a mistake 🤦🏻‍♂️so I guess it’s okay for the courts to purposely give him 20 years by mistake
