NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — A seven-foot female sand tiger shark washed ashore Tuesday morning at Salty Brine State Beach, according to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM).

The DEM said there was no obvious cause of death.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), with help from the Atlantic Shark Institute, conducted a necropsy.

The DEM’s Division of Marine Fisheries removed the shark.
