SWANSEA, Mass. (WPRI) — Three people were displaced after a Swansea home was engulfed in flames Tuesday afternoon.

The Swansea Fire Department was called to the single-family home on Birchwood Drive around 1:20 p.m. to find the rear deck on fire. The flames quickly spread to the attic and kitchen.

Fire officials said the flames were extinguished within 20 minutes using hose lines from the outside to reach the kitchen.

All of the occupants had evacuated by the time crews arrived and no one was injured, officials added.

However, the home sustained significant fire and water damage, rendering it uninhabitable. The displaced residents are being assisted by family members and the Red Cross.

While the preliminary investigation suggested the fire was accidental, the cause remains under investigation.
