TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Loved ones are mourning the loss of a 24-year-old woman who was killed in a crash early Sunday morning in Taunton.

Mallory Humphreys, of Taunton, was a passenger in a car that rear-ended a tractor-trailer while heading east on Route 44, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

The driver, a 27-year-old man from Fall River, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Humphreys, however, was pronounced dead at the scene, the DA’s office said.

Her friends told 12 News that she was sweet, outgoing, and had a bright future ahead of her.

“She talked a lot about wanting to help people who had no way to be helped,” her high school friend Andrew Peel said. “She just wanted to be a voice for the voiceless.”

Peel said he was in disbelief to hear the news and never thought something like this would happen to her.

“It’s very heartbreaking. A lot of people around this area speed. They are reckless drivers with no care for anyone else on the road,” Peel added.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the drivers involved.
