NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Former Patriots fullback Patrick Pass was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly assaulting an elderly man at a gym in North Providence, according to police.

Police said Pass, 46, got into an argument with the 82-year-old victim over a piece of exercise equipment on Aug. 28.

North Providence Police Chief Alfredo Ruggiero Jr. said surveillance video from Planet Fitness showed the victim approaching to use the equipment, which Pass was standing near. The victim began wiping it down, thinking it was unoccupied, and that’s when the argument started.

“I believe the victim thought the machine was vacant, meaning he thought he was able to use it,” Ruggiero said.

Pass then allegedly shoved the man, causing him to fall to the floor and sustain lower back injuries.

Ruggiero said Pass turned himself in at the North Providence Police station and was later taken to Kent County District Court. He was arraigned on charges of assault on a person over 60 causing bodily injury and disorderly conduct.

His bail was set at $10,000 personal recognizance and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Pass is due back in court for a pre-arraignment conference on Jan. 8, 2025.

Planet Fitness has since canceled Pass’ membership, according to a company spokesperson.

“At Planet Fitness, the safety and security of our members is our top priority, and we take these types of incidents extremely seriously. The membership of the person in question was canceled, and the local franchise group has been working closely with authorities in their ongoing investigation,” the spokesperson said in a statement to 12 News.
