JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — An annual outreach event being held this week aims to help veterans who may be struggling with unemployment, homelessness or even a parking ticket.

At 8 a.m. on Thursday, Operation Stand Down Rhode Island (OSDRI) will kick off their event at the Anthony DeQuattro Veterans Service Complex in Johnston. Attendees are asked to park at 1133 Hartford Avenue.

Organizers say there will be a “myriad of resources to help veterans in need” at the two-day event, including housing, employment, dental, social and legal services.

Public officials will also join OSDRI over the course of the event to serve meals to veterans. The event will run until 4 p.m. on Thursday and will run from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday.

OSDRI says the Rhode Island Judiciary will also hold special court sessions on both days to help veterans resolve fines, costs, expungements or any other unresolved matters.

The Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal will be available from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday and the District Court will be available from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday. Any veterans in need of legal services should show up at least an hour early to consult with pro-bono attorneys or call OSDRI’s Legal Assistance Program beforehand by calling 401-383-4730.

“For over thirty years, we have hosted this event and each year we tailor the event to address the needs of today’s veterans,” OSDRI’s Executive Director Erik Wallin said, “whether the veteran is struggling with unemployment, homelessness or any other issue.”
