PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Twenty-two people have been arrested in connection with an illegal drug ring in Providence.

Col. Oscar Perez and Mayor Brett Smiley said the suspects, ranging in age from 18 to 64, are facing charges including unlawful delivery of cocaine and conspiracy.

“Since taking office I have prioritized investments and strategies that elevate public safety, improve behavioral health supports and promote nonviolence throughout Downtown and across our city,” Smiley said.

During the months-long investigation, police say the drugs were distributed in the Kennedy Plaza area.

According to police, 14 were previously charged with a felony or for violent crimes, and 10 were probation violators. Douglas Nalls, 31, was also arrested in last year’s drug bust , police added.

“The illegal possession and distribution of narcotics in Providence is not tolerated and this milestone investigation should send a clear message to our community that individuals who engage in unlawful activity will be held accountable,” Perez said.

Smiley added that the city is committed to helping those with addiction.

Great Job PPD. But these criminals will not get the punishment they deserve. RI laws have no teeth anymore. Criminals and murderers go free.
