BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The human skeletal remains found at a construction site in Barrington last week are at least 75 to 100 years old, according to the state medical examiner’s office.

A contractor doing work at a job site on Elm Lane found the bones on Thursday.

The medical examiner’s office confirmed the remains were human and then looked for additional evidence in the area on Friday.

Annmarie Beardsworth, a spokesperson for the medical examiner’s office, said an archaeologist determined how old the bones were.

“OSME consulted with an archeologist on this determination. Should we need it, we also have a forensic anthropologist available to us when human bones are unearthed,” she explained.

The site is consistent with a historical burial site, but Beardsworth said that requires archeological confirmation.
