NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — A Narragansett man was arraigned Tuesday morning after his mother was found dead in her home.

Police were initially called to the Inkberry Trail home on Monday for a well-being check.

BACKGROUND: ‘Suspicious death’ under investigation in Narragansett; suspect in custody

While responding to the home, police say the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Bryan Wilson, called 911.

He reportedly told the dispatcher that he choked his mother after getting into a fight and that she was dead. When police arrived at the scene, Wilson was immediately detained.

Court documents identify the victim as Hawazoe Robinson and reveal that Wilson was previously arrested last year in North Providence for domestic simple assault. The victim in that case was also his mother.

Paul Sardelli was a friend of Robinson’s. “I can say that Zoe’s devotion to her family was unwavering. She was the matriarch of the family and was regarded in high esteem,” he told 12 News.

According to Sardelli, Robinson was passionate about helping children in Liberia and was in the process of setting up a library there.

“Zoe tirelessly worked to ensure that children in need had access to education and the chance for a brighter future,” Sardelli said. “Her dedication to this cause has left a legacy that will continue to impact the lives of many.”

Police said the investigation is ongoing. Wilson is charged with murder and violating a no-contact order. He was held without bail.

The case was referred to a grand jury. Wilson will appear in court again on Oct. 9.
