SOMERSET, Mass. (WPRI) — Police arrested 15 trespassers who were caught climbing the smoke stacks at the old Monatup Power Plant last month, according to authorities .

Somerset Police Chief William Tedford said the suspects were taken into custody at the Riverside Avenue property throughout the month of September.

Tedford said officers were called to the old power plant numerous times over the past two months after neighbors and the property owner noticed people were sneaking onto the premises.

Though most of the suspects came from surrounding communities, there were a few from out of state that had visited the old power plant to partake in a social media challenge. None of the suspects have been identified.

Tedford warned everyone about the dangerous of the property, which has not been maintained or repaired since it closed in 2008.

Officers have noticed unsafe conditions on the property throughout the years, including holes in the floors and broken structures on the verge of collapsing. Tedford urged everyone to stay away from the property.
