WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Travelers at Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport are already feeling the impacts of Hurricane Milton .

Tampa International Airport is planning to halt flights starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday and St. Pete Clearwater International Airport will close after its last flight on Tuesday. The airport said all flights on Wednesday and Thursday will be canceled.

In Warwick, some people changed flights so they can get to Florida before the storm arrives and prepare for the extreme weather.

“My flight was coming in on Wednesday to Tampa, and I decided to change it and go home today … just to batten down the hatches and get everything situated,” one Floridian told 12 News on Monday.

A Bristol woman said she is going to Florida because she knows the kind of damage a storm like Milton can cause.

“We have a house there that suffered damage during Ian because we weren’t able to get to it in time,” she said. “I’m going down just to ready the house, and we have elderly neighbors who are family.”

Other travelers arrived back home in New England, thankful to be out of the storm’s path.

“We live in Connecticut, but I have a retirement home in Florida,” another traveler said. “We went there to visit for a week, and then, we had to leave a day early for the storm.”
