CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Cranston police have identified the woman who was hit and killed by a vehicle backing out of a driveway Friday night as 77-year-old Lundy Braun.

Police were first called to 41 Strathmore Road around 7:40 p.m. after reports of a woman being hit by a vehicle in front of the home.

When crews arrived at the scene, they saw a woman lying at the end of the driveway unresponsive, according to police.

First responders tried administering CPR and other lifesaving measures before bringing Braun to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver was a 25-year-old woman who stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

The driver told officers she didn’t realize anyone was behind her as she was backing up before feeling the impact, according to police.

The department said there were no signs of impairment and the driver told authorities she ran to a neighboring house to get help after realizing she hit someone.

Braun also resided on Strathmore Road.

There are no charges as of this time, and what caused the crash remains under investigation.
