Officials told Channel 11 a wrong-way driver in a Mercedes hit a Jeep at a high rate of speed on southbound Route 28 just after 11:30p.m.

Pittsburgh police said a female was trapped in the Jeep, which was on its side. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition with severe bleeding and possible broken bones.

Police spoke with the driver of the other the Mercedes who claimed he was traveling the correct direction when the Jeep hit him head on. He told officers he entered the roadway at Anderson Street where there are no northbound lanes and multiple “DO NOT ENTER” and “WRONG WAY” signs.

The driver will be charged via summons and is facing multiple traffic-related charges, including driving under a suspended license, police said.
