Man shot in Turtle Creek near Woodland Hills stadium during high school football game, police say

A shooting near the Wolvarena in Turtle Creek caused a large police presence and the suspension of a high school football game on Friday night.

Allegheny County 911 confirms emergency crews were called to the stadium at 10:06 p.m.

The Allegheny County Police Department says a man was leaving the football game when several shots were fired, and he was struck in the leg. The man ran back to the football stadium for help, but police say he was shot in the 900 block of Oak Avenue.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment and has since been released.

The football game going on at the time of the shooting, Penn Hills vs. Woodland Hills, was postponed.

In a letter to families, the Woodland Hills superintendent said the incident happened in the neighborhood away from the stadium during the fourth quarter of the game.

“The Woodland Hills School District would like to thank local law enforcement for their prompt response and district security and staff for helping to clear the stadium as swiftly and as safely as possible. We are grateful that the student-athletes, cheerleaders, marching bands, and spectators from Woodland Hills and Penn Hills are safe,” part of the letter read.
