Muscatine woman facing 67 counts of animal neglect
A woman has been arrested after 67 animals were removed from a rural Muscatine property during an animal neglect investigation, officials say. Back on June 17, authorities executed a search warrant in the 2000 block of Highway 22 where they found dozens of animals living at the property. Two of the animals were found dead, according to the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office. Officials say a majority of the animals were inside a home on the property, which was deemed unsafe for human occupancy due to the interior conditions.

Fatal 2020 Sterling apartment fire case in court this week
MORRISON, Ill. — The trial of a Rock Falls man charged with murder and arson is ongoing this week in Whiteside County. Steven Coleman is accused of setting the fatal fire on June 1, 2020, in the overnight hours at the Western Apartment Complex in Sterling. A 49-year-old woman and two girls, aged 8 and 13 died in the fire. A 35-year-old woman and 12-year-old were rescued and taken to the hospital. A Dixon firefighter and paramedic was also injured in the fire after falling through the floor.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — No charges will be filed in the fatal police shooting of 40-year-old David Vanderhamm, the Iowa Attorney General's Office has decided. According to a report from Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, Vanderhamm's mother called 911 and asked officers to take her son to the hospital for a mental health evaluation shortly before 2:30 p.m. on April 6, telling officers that her son was "violent and paranoid and had access to a gun." Two officers arrived and escorted Vanderhamm to the hospital, where he refused treatment and left the facility.

GENESEO, Ill. — A Geneseo man has been arrested for attempted first-degree murder after a reported stabbing left one person seriously injured, according to police. After responding to a disturbance call in the 600 block of South Congress Street on Saturday, July 13, the Geneseo Police Department says officers found a person with multiple stab wounds to the head, face and body. They were taken to a nearby hospital before later being transported to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for treatment.
