I remember this really well! It also hit northern parts of Clinton, NC. It tore threw homes & leveled them to the ground.

Ripped through Scotland County, too. The part of the county, south of Laurinburg, where I grew up was forever changed. I came home from college and was so grateful that my parents' house was a mile from where the tornado was on the ground, but other friends' and family members' houses and businesses were damaged beyond repair or simply gone. People, who were small children then, still have PTSD from that night. I, and every other ECU on campus student, was in the hallway of my dorm. My mother called and wanted to know if I had heard anything about Pembroke because my brother was a student at UNC-P and she couldn't reach him on the phone. I told her that according to the TV reports no tornado had touched down at Pembroke, but had touched other Robeson County towns so the phone system was probably down. No tornado on campus, but it did cause damage in Greenville.
