UPDATE  05/21/24 11:09 p.m. — The winner for Muscogee County Coroner has been called.

Buddy Bryan, the Muscogee County Coroner will remain in office.  Bryan had 64 percent of the votes. WRBL caught up with Bryan after his win.

Bryan says, “I’m feeling good. I really am. You know, I just want to thank the citizens of Columbus for still having the trust and confidence in me  at this point to be their coroner.  I think I’ve done an excellent job. “

Bryan finished, “I care about the people. You know, they’re. They’re like family to me.  And I want to thank them.  It’s been a long three months for me. I put a lot of time and energy and money into this campaign. It’s the first time I’ve had opposition, so it’s made me work for my job and appreciate it even more.”

MUSCOGEE COUNTY, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Local elections for Muscogee County Coroner have begun with Incumbent Buddy Bryan and challenger Royal Anderson.

Incumbent Buddy Bryan is facing a challenge from Royal Anderson in the Democratic Primary in May. The Muscogee County Coroner has no republican candidate on the ballot.

Bryan who has been the Muscogee County Coroner for over a decade recalls the moment in March when he found out that someone qualified to run against him.

Bryan says, “It threw me into anxiety and depression and I knew that it was time to buck up this position and out campaign my opponent.”

As voters were at the polls, WRBL spoke with Bryan about how he felt about the election.

Bryan says, “I feel real good about the election. I feel confident. I feel like probably around 10:00 o’clock tonight I’ll feel comfortable knowing that I’ve got a firm win.”

The same sentiments are shared by Royal Anderson who says she wanted to run for the position four years ago.

Anderson says “I actually feel really good. I’ve got some encouraging words from friends and families. Family members giving me calls, texting me. So, I feel really good.”

She continues, “I feel like my team, we’ve done our best over the last few months letting the voters know who I am and what I stand for. I believe the community believes in me.”

WRBL will keep you updated on the election results.
