COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Starting off the morning with clear skies and mid to low 70s across rural regions outside the city of Columbus. Columbus remains the warm spot with a temperature in the upper 70s. Throughout the morning, expect clear skies to remain with warming temperatures, but by the afternoon more clouds will be likely.

Afternoon remains hot with readings climbing into the mid 90s for highs. The dry streak continues for the month of August. Only one day of measurable rainfall, which was only 0.04”. Dry conditions are starting to settle back into the region as rainfall chances have been very slim over the month.

But there is some good news. We are watching for increasing rainfall chances by the end of the week, but only a few showers and storms in the forecast.Better chances of showers and storms arrive Saturday as a front drops into the region.

Ernesto continues to skirt across the Lesser Antilles and impact Puerto Rico today. The storm continues to garner strength and is likely to become a hurricane at some point this afternoon or evening. Guidance hints that Ernesto could become a major hurricane by late week as it moves toward Bermuda.
