Warm & toasty to close the week; tracking weekend rain chances

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Ending the week with a clear start and temperature readings mild in the mid 70s. A few areas have dipped into the low 70s and upper 60s, but expect another hot afternoon with cloud coverage slowly increasing throughout the day.

Rainfall chances for this afternoon and evening remain low; however, we could see a late evening push of showers and/or storms for our northern counties. That is if we see a thunderstorm complex hold together as it moves across north Alabama and north Georgia.

Weekend rain chances are much higher especially throughout Saturday afternoon and evening. Model guidance has been going back and forth on whether we would see pop up thunderstorms or a thunderstorm complex move through. But otherwise most areas have a good chance of seeing something throughout the day. Sunday’s rain chances are higher for the southern end of the viewing area as the front sweeps throughout the southeast.

Behind the front the upcoming week starts off nice and pleasant with noticeably drier air across the southeast – is this our first taste of fall? Not quite as temperatures remain warm with humidity levels increasing by the midweek.

Ernesto, now a hurricane, continues to churn in the Atlantic Ocean, but thankfully this storm will miss the east coast. After moving through the Virgin Islands and brushing Puerto Rico the storm now sets its sights on the island of Bermuda where it could possibly be a major hurricane as it sideswipes the island.
