    FRIDAY: Pro baseball name reveal, first-ever drone show in Columbus, free concert

    COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Uptown Columbus and Columbus pro baseball are joining forces for the return of the Friday Night Concert Series . It will come with some historic firsts.

    Sept. 6 will mark the reveal of the name for the Columbus pro baseball team, which has been under wraps for months. The long-awaited release will be happen between free performances from Tommy Prine and Homegrown, a Zac Brown tribute band. For now, it remains under lock and key, alongside details about team colors and its mascot-to-be.

    “I’ve definitely tried to stay very disciplined, even with my closest friends and family keeping it to myself, and I know our staff has done a great job of it too,” Columbus pro baseball general manager Pete Laven said.

    He continued, “We’re as excited about the public, for everybody to know, what that name is and then just steamroll towards opening day on April 15.”

    While the team won’t give any hints as to what its new name is, the announcement will come with a first-of-its-kind, baseball-themed drone show. According to Uptown Columbus, 150 drones will fly as part of the first drone show in the city

    “You won’t want to miss it.  [It’ll be a] Really cool experience,” Uptown Columbus Director of Communications and Marketing Tracey Green said, adding, “It’ll all be baseball themed and themed around Columbus and so we’re just really excited about it.”

    Players for the Columbus pro baseball team and team merch will also be onsite as part of the big reveal Friday. Columbus pro baseball players will also be in Uptown at Friday Night Concerts through the rest of the series to interact with community members. Upcoming concerts will be free and featuring mostly local acts.

    Although rain could disrupt Friday’s plan, as of now, Uptown Columbus and Columbus pro baseball are moving full steam ahead for the April 6 event which kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
