COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Starting Sept. 9, all household waste must be collected in city-issued black or brown carts , according to the Columbus Consolidated Government.

Citizens that want to buy a brown cart can do so by calling 311. There is a $55 onetime fee.

Low-income residents can be issued a brown cart at no cost, depending upon their approval based on Federal Government Poverty Guidelines.

All services will be provided on the same day as the usual trash collection day. The carts will need to be placed out once a week.

The Columbus Consolidated Government also reminds everyone that all limbs can not be longer than four feet and wider than six inches. Any limbs outside of those dimensions will not be collected.
