UPDATE: GBI and Lumpkin Police conducting death investigation on Cotton Street

Editor’s note: A previous report identified the victim as a 21-year-old man. That information has since been corrected to reflect the victim was actually a 31-year-old man.

UPDATE 9/12/2024 1:53 a.m.: The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released new information regarding the shooting investigation in Lumpkin, Georgia.

According to the GBI, Lumpkin Police responded to a car accident on Cotton Street. When officers approached the vehicle they found the 31-year-old victim dead inside the car from gunshot wounds.

The GBI says the investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Regional Investigative Office in Americus at 229-931-2439 or the Lumpkin Police Department at 229-838- 6101.

The GBI added anonymous tips can be submitted at gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online .

UPDATE 9/11/2024, 12:35 p.m.: Lumpkin Police Department Chief Matt Holloway confirms a 31-year-old man was killed by gunshot wounds.

The victim’s identity has yet to be released. The GBI confirms it is assisting in the investigation.

LUMPKIN, Ga. ( WRBL ) — A death investigation is being conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Lumpkin Police Department in Stewart County.

Stewart County Coroner Sybil Ammons says a 31-year-old man was killed, possibly by gunshot wounds.

Ammons said calling in the GBI to assist in the investigation is normal protocol.
