BUTLER, Ga. ( WRBL ) — The Taylor County Superintendent released a statement Thursday night, saying Taylor County Schools will be closing amid rumors of a threat.

Superintendent Jennifer Albritton said in a statement, released on Facebook, that the school system is aware of social media rumors regarding a threat that was made. She says local authorities have been made aware of the situation.

“At this time we have no reason to believe the threats are credible,” Albritton said. “With that being said, we believe it is in the best interest of our school system and community for the Taylor County School District to be closed Friday, September 13, 2024.”

Albritton says Taylor County will still host the football game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

This statement comes after the district was made aware of a threat that was reported to local law enforcement on Sept. 11.

Albritton says law enforcement arrested the student who made the Sept. 11 threat. She also says law enforcement and the school district are conducting investigations into the Sept. 11 threat.
