COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — For the first time since 2017, bikes are back on Broadway. The local motorcyclists confirmed they would be out “rain or shine” on Sept. 13 and 14 for the return of “Bikes on Broadway.”

The event is a family-friendly motorcycle expo and fundraising event. This year, it is also paired up with Uptown Columbus’ Friday Night Concert Series, offering free music as part of the experience.

“When a dad brings their kid who’s maybe three, or four or five years old and then he stands next to one of these machines and you can tell that kid’s like, ‘Oh my God!’ That’s what we want,” Rob Carter, one of the event organizers, said.

Carter works as marketing director with Extreme Power Sports and Extreme Motorcycles. The businesses are partnered with the Columbus Association of Motorcyclists for Bikes on Broadway.

According to organizers, the event acts as a fundraiser for the Columbus Association of Motorcyclists but is also held to honor and remember 9/11. Motorcycle Association clubs will use funds collected through the event to promote motorcycle safety, help downed bikers and donate to various charities during the holidays.

“The one thing that we’ve always wanted every time is awareness.  Just watch for motorcycles,” Joey Rucker, special projects manager with the Columbus Association of Motorcyclists, said. “That’s a phrase that just cannot be said enough.”

Bikes on Broadway officially kicked off Friday afternoon. Music begins at 5:30 p.m. with a performance from the Sally Brown Band.

The event will conclude will a 9/11 remembrance ceremony Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
