COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)— WRBL continues to follow the investigation into Columbus Animal Care and Control (CACC), a major update broke late last week in the investigation being handled by the Columbus Police Department.

Manager of the facility, Canita Johnson, and field supervisor, Alexander Pimentel, have both been placed on administrative leave with pay.

This comes more than a month after investigators with the Columbus Police Department executed a search warrant of the city-run shelter.

The search warrant was executed August 26, the investigation was called for by Columbus City Council on July 23, one month after surveillance footage of a dog being euthanized in the main kennel area went viral.

Animal advocacy groups and citizens have attended every city council meeting since, demanding change during the public agenda.

Councilwoman Toyia Tucker shared the update to social media this weekend.

WRBL has requested the paperwork under the Georgia Open Records Act. We will continue to follow this investigation and share those updates with you as they develop.

I called the dog pound last year and told them about a dog being chained up and no water. The truck went to check on the dog once he found out it was One of the supervisors house and nothing was done. couple of months later the dog was laying out in backyard chain up dead. now they has been a lot of cruelty going on with animals in Columbus Georgia. and it needs to stop
