COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Although Columbus is not set to receive the brunt of Helene’s impact, Georgia Power says it’s best to stay prepared.

WRBL’s team is tracking Helene incoming later this week. The storm will come with a risk of flash-flooding and damaging winds, which could impact access to power.

“Just [make] sure that, you know, you don’t take these storms lightly,” Georgia Power Spokesperson Alicia Brown said. “Make sure you’re always prepared, just in case.”

Brown suggested keeping an emergency light kit with flashlights and batteries, making sure devices are charged during the storm and staying up-to-date with local weather predictions and emergency messages.

It will also be important to stay away from windows and doors, Brown said.

Georgia Power urges locals to use caution and avoid moving downed trees or liquid which could have become electrified.

In the event of an outage, Georgia Power said it will be working to restore power as quickly as possible.
