    Mayor of Columbus issues local state of emergency

    COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson has issues a local state of emergency for Columbus and Muscogee County.

    In the declaration sent out Thursday afternoon, the mayor says the decision came after consulting with the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

    The declaration says, “There exists emergency circumstances located throughout the area of Columbus/Muscogee County requiring extraordinary and immediate corrective actions for the protection of the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Columbus/Muscogee County, including individuals with household pets and service animals.”

    The declaration states the state of emergency will remain in effect until conditions surrounding the declaration end.
