COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The Chattahoochee Valley was left with minimal destruction from Helene on Friday. However, citizens are advised to be cautious as crews will still be out.

Chance Corbett, Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director says crews have been deployed to begin restoring areas that were impacted by the storm. He advised citizens who need assistance to be patient.

“You know, if a tree fell or a limb fell, they’re going to get all that. It may take them a little time because they’re having to cover the entire city and Muscogee County. So, it’s going to take a little time to get everything up,” says Corbett.

Corbett advises citizens who come across areas with standing water, damage, or barricades to stay away if possible. He says do not try to drive through it.

Helene has caused the Chattahoochee River to flood as rainwater from areas north of Columbus are being dumped into the river. Corbett recommends staying away from the riverwalk.

“We don’t need anybody trying to get down there and test the waters, if you will, and ended up being you know an emergency for our first responders,” Corbett says.
