COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Good Friday morning! Off to an overcast start as we are wrapping up the week and dodging a few spotty light showers throughout the morning and into the afternoon.

Light showers will continue through the rest of the morning and into parts of the afternoon, but the showers look to move out just in time for Friday evening. Highs today will be slightly cooler with the added cloud cover with temperatures hovering near 80. If we see a few breaks in the clouds, readings could be a tad warmer.

Weekend forecast turns dry with a mix of sun and clouds in the forecast with temperatures in the mid 80s, slightly above average, but manageable.

Next week looks very promising for some fall-like weather as a front arrives Monday ushering in lower dew points and cooler temperatures. Highs will be in the upper 70s and low 80s starting Tuesday into the upcoming midweek. Overnight lows dip into the mid 50s.

Keeping an eye on the tropics. A very organized disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico will help provide us with some showers today, but most of this energy will push eastward into the Florida peninsula. Development is medium with a 40 percent chance.

Kirk is now a major hurricane out in the eastern Atlantic while Leslie continues to slowly follow Kirk’s track. Thankfully both of these storms will stay out to sea or what we call a ‘fish’ storm.
