LaGRANGE, Ga. ( WRBL ) — The City of LaGrange’s animal shelter is offering free adoptions on Saturday, Oct. 12 due to “extreme overcrowding.”

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., both dogs and cats will be up for adoption at the LaGrange Fire Department’s Citizens’ Day at the LaGrange Mall along with the City of LaGrange Animal Shelter.

According to the city, the Puppy Pipeline typically helps transport animals up north, but recent storms have left an impact on the roadways. The city says its shelter is also seeing more local animal drop-offs.

“We are seeing more families dropping off their animals because of the economy,” said LaGrange Animal Services Supervisor Chris Bussey. “We are having a hard time keeping up with the influx of animals coming into the shelter, so we are offering free adoptions for this day.”

Bussey would like to remind struggling families the shelter will provide free pet food while supplies last.

Outside of the free adoptions on Saturday, the shelter is offering half-off puppy and dog adoptions for the entire month of October.

Anyone with information can call the LaGrange Animal Shelter at (706) 298-3606.
