    City of Columbus accepting applications for ‘Citizens Academy,’ a program on local government operations

    COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — The City of Columbus is now accepting applications for its first-ever “Citizens Academy,” a seven-week program focusing on local government processes and operations.

    The city says this academy aims to “empower Muscogee County residents and business owners by providing them with a deeper understanding of local governance, civic engagement, and community resources.”

    The academy is a seven-week program scheduled to start in January. It will be held every Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

    Applications are being accepted until Nov. 15 for 25 participants. They must be a resident in Muscogee County or own a business in the county, as well as be 18-years-of-age or older.

    The city says participants can except to hear from officials, attend information sessions, and engage in discussions on the impact of local government in their lives.

    Anyone interested can apply online at this link or email ccgcommunications@columbusga.org to request an application.
