COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — The Columbus Police Department says a recent arrest was a direct result of its Real Time Crime Center (RTCC).

Columbus police say they arrested Anthony Anderson on Oct. 1 at Piedmont Columbus Regional. Anderson is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury, which is a felony. Police say the arrest would not have been made without the use of the RTCC.

According to the Columbus Police Department, when officers arrived at the scene of the hit-and-run on Cusseta Road and 23rd Avenue, they found the victim laying in the roadway with serious injuries. Very little evidence was at the scene, there were no eye witnesses and the victim was unable to communicate.

Police say they then used the RTCC to collect footage from cameras and see the hit-and-run occur. Using this footage Columbus police were able to locate the vehicle involved at Piedmont Columbus Regional.

Police then arrested Anderson at the hospital based on evidence collected from the RTCC and the damage done to his car.

“This case would not have been solved so quickly—if at all—without the incredible work of the RTCC team,” the Columbus Police Department said. “Their real-time support helped locate the suspect vehicle and driver within just one hour of the incident.”
