MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Dangerous heat is blazing across our area as many have outdoor plans this weekend with the FedEx St. Jude Championship bringing thousands to Memphis.

Doctors warn more and more people are going to the ER with heat-related illnesses.

“Definitely want to make sure you stay hydrated in this high, high heat,” said David Winter Gutierrez, clinical director at Methodist University Hospital. “We are seeing a lot more heat stroke.”

But dangerous heat does not have to be deadly. There are other symptoms.

Celebrities tee it up for St. Jude

“Instead of just dizziness and nausea, you’re passing out, losing consciousness. Maybe instead of sweating your skin becomes dry. Those are signs your body is having trouble regulating its own temp,” Gutierrez said.

It’s always important to note that even spectators have a ton of opportunity to get shade, cooling stations at the FedDEx St. Jude Championship. There are free water refill stations all around. Anyone can bring in a water bottle 32 oz or under.

Water is only $2 so everyone can stay hydrated enjoy the tournament and get some relief.
