MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Munford Police Officer shot a woman after a pursuit when she allegedly refused to stop for an officer on Highway 51 near Covington early Monday, officials say.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating.

TBI special agents say they responded to Highway 51 and Hope Street around 2:10 a.m. to investigate a “reported” officer-involved shooting. The investigation was requested by Mark Davidson, the 25th Judicial District Attorney General.

According to reports, it started when Munford Police attempted a traffic stop and the driver refused to pull over. A police pursuit was initiated.

The chase continued for 10 miles along Highway 51 into Covington, where stop sticks were deployed. After the driver stopped, TBI says a Munford officer approached the vehicle and shot the female driver.

The woman was then taken to the hospital for treatment. There were no officers reported injured.

TBI says this is still an active and ongoing investigation.
