    Arrest made after $61K worth of TVs stolen in train heist

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A second arrest has been made involving over $61,000 worth of TVs being stolen from a train in Midtown nearly two months ago.

    Pierre Smith, 30, is charged with burglary of a building, theft of property $60,000-$250,000, and destroying/interfering with a utility line. Smith is being held in jail on a $200,000 bond.

    From April 2024 , Smith has had three felony arrests and was charged with twelve counts of burglary of a building, two counts of theft of property $2,500-$10,000, burglary of a vehicle, and theft of property $10,000-$60,000 in those cases.

    On June 18, Memphis Police say they responded to York Avenue and Tanglewood Street regarding a prowler. A witness stated that several men in a white van and other vehicles were stealing items from a train.

    Officers say when they arrived at the scene, multiple men were seen running away where 13 Samsung televisions were lying in the field. The men were going north, crossing the railroad tracks.

    A white Ford Econoline was left parked across from the field. Police say it was then towed to the City Lot.

    On June 19, investigators say they found two more Samsung TVs on the north side of the railroad tracks.

    On June 24, investigators say they spoke with a man identified as Pierre Smtih who called asking about the white van that he says belonged to him.

    Smith stated that he was at home in Frayser all morning during the time of the train heist.

    On June 27, investigators say they secured a search warrant for Smith’s phone records.

    On July 16, Best Buy stated that the burglarized container was missing 17 TVs worth $61,275.18.

    On July 24, Investigators say Smith’s cell phone records were returned which showed him making three different trips to York Avenue and Tanglewood Street during the time the train was stopped and robbed in that area.

    Pierre Smith is scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning.
