MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is now in jail after police say he was caught on camera at a North Memphis gas station shooting a man before robbing him and taking off in his car Sunday evening.
Anthony Beloch, 33, is charged with criminal attempt second-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, possession of a firearm/dangerous felony, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, and two counts of a controlled substance.
On August 25, Memphis Police say they responded to B&H Express gas station located at 1050 Chelsea Avenue where they saw a blood trail going from the side of the parking lot to inside the building.
A male victim was found shot in the leg. He was then taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.
According to video surveillance at the gas station, a male suspect is seen walking into the store and buying some water. He is then seen walking around the parking lot toward the victim before shooting him in the leg.
Police say the suspect can be heard on video demanding the victim’s keys and wallet. After the victim gave his belongings to the suspect, the suspect left the scene in the victim’s car.
On August 27, investigators say while they were in North Memphis near Hollywood Street and Dexter Avenue they saw the suspect from the video walking around the area. At that time, the suspect was detained and identified as Anthony Beloch.
Officers say Beloch was carrying a silver .9mm Taurus handgun in his waistband, a clear bag of a white powdery substance, pills, and what appeared to be marijuana inside his pants pockets. He was then taken into custody and to the Violent Crime Unit for further investigation.
Beloch identified himself in the gas station video and gave a statement admitting to robbing and shooting the victim. He claims he purchased the gun on the street and parked the stolen car in North Memphis on Hollywood Street.
The items in his pants pocket had also tested positive for Fentanyl, ecstasy, and marijuana, according to reports.
The victim was able to positively identify Beloch in a six-person photo lineup when investigators visited him at the hospital.
Anthony Beloch is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning.
In May 2011, Beloch was convicted in criminal court and sentenced to six years in jail for a criminal attempt to manufacture/sell a controlled substance.
