MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Near 100-degree temperatures in the Memphis area are keeping AC repair technicians busy this week

Oscar Pruitt, owner of Opachs AC and Heating Services, is reminding homeowners to get their AC units checked out before it’s too late.

“A lot of the units are aging out real fast,” said Pruitt. “A lot of our clients are replacing their systems.”

Pruitt spends most of his days fixing air conditioning units.

“This is number six. I’ve been running since 5:30 this morning,” said Pruitt.

He said calls have been nonstop, and he’s asking customers to be patient.

“We work them in as soon as we can,” said Pruitt. “The best time to make sure your system is good is around spring because once it’s hot, everyone is running behind.”

He says that certain parts take days or even weeks to come, which creates a dangerous environment in a home.

“Let some of the windows up, put a fan in until we get there, but if the unit is frozen up, turn the unit off or just put it on the fan,” said Pruitt.

If you’re searching for a filter to buy, he recommends the MERV 11 air filter.

Pruitt says before you call them, check your batteries and your filter, spray down the A/C unit with the water hose, and check your breaker.
