MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three children were injured in a school bus crash involving multiple vehicles in Southwest Memphis Wednesday morning, police say.

However, the injured children were not on board the school bus at the time of the wreck, Memphis-Shelby County Schools officials said.

“We are relieved to report that no students were on the bus at the time of the incident, and our bus driver was not injured,” MSCS said in a statement.

Just before 8:15 a.m., officers say they responded to a three-vehicle crash involving a school bus at New Horn Lake Road and West Mitchell Road.

School officials said the bus was stopped at a traffic light when another vehicle ran a red light, hitting a third vehicle and pushing it into the bus head-on.

Police say the three children were taken to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in non-critical condition following the crash. They said the children were ages 15, 7 and 4.
