    Crash involving 18-wheeler, ambulance, fire truck closes down I-40

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A crash on Interstate 40 sent two people to the hospital and closed down lanes Friday morning.

    The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says they were working a single-vehicle crash around 1:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-40 just west of 269 and 385 when an 18-wheeler going westbound collided with the ambulance and fire truck responding to the accident.

    The man driving the 18-wheeler was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition, and the man from the earlier accident was transported to St. Francis-Bartlett non-critical.

    The accident is being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

    I-40 West is temporarily closed. SCSO recommends that drivers use Highway 64 or 70 as alternate routes for the time being.
