MEMPHIS — Penny Hardaway is and will remain the coach of the Memphis Tigers.

That was the message from Memphis Athletic Director Ed Scott on Friday.

Making an appearance on 92.9’s Geoff Calkins show, Scott said that “Based on every piece of information I have today, Penny will absolutely, unequivocally be the coach and be on that sideline when Missouri comes in here, hands down.”

Scott’s support of Hardaway comes on the heels of a tumultuous couple of days that first saw Penny fire four staff members and then the university acknowledging the existence of an anonymous letter that alleges major NCAA violations within the Tigers men’s basketball program. Memphis said it has turned over that letter to the NCAA.

Scott, who has officially been on the job for just over a month, also said the school has not received a formal notice of allegations from the NCAA related to that letter.
